I am a creator. I am an
architect,
designer,
artist, and
thinker.
I believe in investment in meaningful and actual change. I believe in impact that can be tangibly perceived not just publicly advertised.
“The undermining of standards of seriousness is almost complete, with the ascendancy of a culture whose most intelligible, persuasive values are drawn from the entertainment industries.” - Susan Sontag
Until there is a purposeful exodus from the malevolent river of slop we continually bathe in, then we will continue to devolve and degrade as a people. Our spirit and soul is eroded by our seemingly insignificant involvement into a machine whose only desire is our attention.
This unfortunate truth is applicable to all industry and academia alike, not just our personal lives. Our institutions would rather appear caring than to ever care. The prolific inclusion of greenwashing and land acknowledgements confirms that.
Fakery is now a business model. Reality is its hated competitor. - Ted Gioia
But this is hardly a way to treat our fellow man. We yearn for genuineness, for honesty, for justice.
My design philosophy is built upon a foundation of intentionality. I find it quite difficult to rectify the idea of arbitrariness within design. My approach is such that every decision and every moment is carefully considered. I believe that design is meant to affect and refine the spirit, soul, body, and mind. Design is intended to holistically purify the human experience. Designers have a responsibility to hold ourselves to a higher standard. We cannot remain drunk on the hubris of our own ego. This savior mentality is an inherently limited lens with which to view the impact we are capable of. We must hold ourselves accountable to provide healthy and engaging living conditions. Doing so with an understanding that this is an all-encompassing, holistic ambition. One that requires a myriad of other offices, facilities, and change-makers.
